The Science of Ageing Facial Skin

Our facial skin is at the mercy of many forces as we age!

How your skin ages will depend on a variety of factors: your lifestyle, diet, heredity, and other personal habits. For instance, smoking can produce free radicals, once-healthy oxygen molecules that are now overactive and unstable. Free radicals damage cells, leading to, among other things, premature wrinkles.

There are other reasons, too. Primary factors contributing to ageing skin include nutrition, normal aging, overexposure to the sun and pollution, and loss of subcutaneous support (fatty tissue between your skin and muscle).

Other factors that contribute to aging of the skin include stress, gravity, menopause, hormone imbalance, daily facial movement, obesity, and even sleeping position.

Skin Change

Skin Changes That Come With Age

As we grow older, changes like these naturally occur:

  • Skin becomes rougher.
  • Skin develops lesions.
  • Skin becomes slack. The loss of the elastic tissue (elastin) in the skin with age causes the skin to hang loosely.
  • Skin becomes more transparent. This is caused by thinning of the epidermis (surface layer of the skin).
  • Skin becomes more fragile. This is caused by a flattening of the area where the epidermis and dermis (the layer of skin under the epidermis) come together.
  • Skin becomes more easily bruised. This is due to thinner blood vessel walls.

Changes below the skin also become evident as we age. They include:

  • Loss of fat below the skin in the cheeks, temples, chin, nose, and eye area may result in loosening skin, sunken eyes, and a “skeletal” appearance.
  • Bone loss, mostly around the mouth and chin, may become evident after age 60 and cause puckering of the skin around the mouth.
  • Cartilage loss in the nose causes drooping of the nasal tip and accentuation of the bony structures in the nose.

As an individual matures the face “ages”. Essentially, as any person ages beyond about 24 years the face begins to gradually match the mask less and less. This of course is not an overnight phenomenon, but as a rule is gradual, occurring over a period of years. This “face aging” is actually a function of several physiologic changes that occur with time.

The collagen in the face becomes less elastic and allows the soft tissue features of the face to sag inferiorly. In addition, facial fat is generally lost with age, making the facial soft tissues thinner. Finally the facial soft tissues gradually atrophy compounding the visual “thinning” of the facial soft tissues, as well as making the facial bones appear more prominent.

As a result the normal aging adult face with time progressively varies from the archetypal adult Mask in the following manner:

  • The cheeks sag inferiorly resulting the appearance of jowls
  • The corners of the mouth move invariably resulting in a slight frown look
  • The tissue around the eyes sag inferiorly
  • The eyelids, upper and lower, themselves sag inferiorly
  • The tissue of the forehead drifts inferiorly, creating wrinkles and drooping the eyebrows downward and giving them a flatter appearance
  • The nose may elongate and move the tip inferiorly
  • The nose may develop a small to pronounced dorsal hump
  • The tip of the nose may enlarge and become bulbous
  • Generalized wrinkling of the face may occur

Our Biolift skin tightening treatment and cream works. The Biolift formula combines five different treatments into one – it essentially eliminates the need for multiple time-consuming skin care products. Biolift  provides a high dose of hyaluronic acid, retinol, Vitamins A, C and E, natural proteins, and Collagen the key ingredient – targets every aspect of aging skin.

The Biolift System ensures proper penetration to make the treatment as effective as possible. Biolift  is 100% cruelty-free, paraben free and hypoallergenic so it’s safe for all skin types, even sensitive. The formula targets five signs of aging skin:

  • Wrinkles: Biolift’s moisturizing and hydrating formula packed with the humectants Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin E give skin a plump and hydrated appearance that gives wrinkles a smoother, almost blurred appearance.
  • Fine Lines: These tiny wrinkles tend to appear around the eyes AKA crow’s feet. Benefit from the light-reflecting particles that give the skin a smooth and matte appearance. Don’t worry, this isn’t makeup. It’s 100% invisible.
  • Sagging Skin: Time and weight loss may make the skin lose its elasticity. Biolift contains Vitamin C, A and E and very high dose collagen. Each ingredient works to help give skin a firmer, tighter and more elastic appearance.
  • Dark Spots / Pigmentation: Too much time in the sun can cause discoloration. Biolift targets this skin issue by gently fading the appearance with Vitamin C and Retinol.
  • Dullness: Years of neglect can give skin a dull look. Biolift’s hydrating and moisturizing formula fully absorb into the skin to ensure it benefits from the water-binding ingredients
